The data provided by applicants will be used to determine whether or not they meet the requirements to join the NHSC SP. Information gathered from outside sources will also be taken into account (e.g., credit bureau reports). This program encourages diversity in the health professions by giving grants to nursing and health professions programs that qualify, enabling programs to offer scholarships to underprivileged students who have a proven financial need and are enrolled full-time in a nursing or health professions program.

The responsibility for choosing scholarship recipients, reasonably determining needs, and awarding scholarships that do not exceed allowable costs (such as tuition, reasonable educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses, with a cap on the total scholarship award of $ 40,000) rests with participating schools.
