Scholarship Description:

The Carson Scholars Program was created to recognize and reward exceptional high school students in the United States who are leaders in both their academic pursuits and their community service. The Carson Scholars Program’s objective extends far beyond simply fostering an early interest in furthering one’s education and providing financial support for college.

Carson Scholars are seen as leaders and role models at their respective schools. The program has an effect not only on individual students but also on their families and the schools in which they are educated. Carson Scholars are students who have been recognized for their academic achievement and who also serve as role models for their fellow students at their respective schools.

According to the research done, 94 per cent of Carson Scholars believe that being given the title of Carson Scholar has assisted them in becoming role models in their respective schools. The Carson Scholars receive recognition from their respective schools.

The Carson Scholars Program awards participating schools with trophies that can be displayed with honour as part of the program. The purpose of this is to emphasize the importance of academic accomplishments and to shift the spotlight back onto education; all too frequently, athletic accomplishments are given more recognition than academic successes.

The Scholarship Aims To:

  • Train the next generation of environmental researchers in effective public communication.
  •  Provide Carson Scholars with hands-on training and other resources to help them learn how to effectively convey the value of their research and improve their skills in communicating science to a wide range of audiences. They spend the entire academic year working closely with faculty mentors to achieve this.
  • The Scholars then put their knowledge to use by creating a final year project such as a video, exhibit, public presentation, website, blog, etc.
