What is The McKay Scholarship?:

The McKay Scholarship in the USA provides aid to disabled students in Florida. Students can use the scholarship to attend any public school of their choice. It also provides pupils with a scholarship to attend a McKay-approved private school.

The school choice programs in Florida enable parents to choose the best educational setting for their child, whether public or private. The McKay Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities will allow over 30,000 Florida children with special needs to attend a participating private school during the 2021-2022 academic year. Parents may also transfer their qualified child to a different public school through the Scholarship Program.

The state provides the funding for the scholarship. A student either receives the maximum state grant or is responsible for paying their private school tuition and fees. The private school gets money on your kid’s behalf four times a year.

Scholarship Benefits:

Scholarships range from $5,500 to $22,000 per year, depending on the severity of your child’s identified handicap as indicated by the IEP. The size of the scholarship is determined by assessments that indicate where your child needs help and an analysis of your child’s needs by a school-based team.

The scholarship will be available until one of the following events occurs:

  • The student returns to a public school.
  • The pupil completes high school.
  • The student has reached the age of 22.

The McKay scholarship application is not based on a family’s income. If a student is eligible for the program, they will get funding regardless of their family’s income level.

Scholarship Terms and Conditions:

  • The scholarship will be available until you graduate high school, return to public school, or reach 22. Whatever happens first.
  • You should note that if you are enrolled in McKay private school scholarship and want to transfer to a public school, your parents must inform the district.
  • The district will determine the number of public schools that you can choose from. You will need to be in an October or February student survey to reinstate your eligibility for private school.
